Chennai, May 15:

Tamilnadu government has been directed by Madras High Court today to take disciplinary steps after an enquiry against a Vellore-based teachers training institute that admitted more students than permitted, thus violating the laid-down norms.

In his writ petition, Infant Jesus Teachers Training School managing director Einstein complained that in the last two academic years, the institute had enrolled more people that the sanctioned number for admission to its courses.

During 2005-06, the school admitted 50 students over and above the sanctioned quota and High Court strongly criticised the trust running the Infant Jesus School for violating the admission norms, while hearing a case in this regard. The court also requested the government to hold an enquiry and take suitable action against the training institute.

But again in 2006-07, the trust enrolled 58 more students for teachers' training courses and benefited monetarily by levying huge fees on them. Einstein charged in his writ petition that a complaint to the government in March - April for taking severe action against the trust running the school for enrolling more than the sanctioned number had not evoked any response from the concerned authority.

As there was no response from the authority to his complaint against the trust, the future of many students who have got enrolled over and above permitted strength was at the stake, Einstein alleged in this petition at the High Court. Further, he prayed for direction from the court to the government for enforcing the norms on admission at the Infant Jesus Teachers Training School at Vellore.

In his ruling, Justice Mohan Ram ordered the director of Teachers Training at the Education Department to enquire on the complaint filed by the institute's managing director and take speedy action within four weeks from the court verdict.
