Importance of science in creating a better society with modern comforts was the focus at a summer camp for students which was inaugurated by Professor P R Nakeeran, director, Tamil Virtual University.
A host of events like competitions, science demos, special lectures and field work by students were the main highlights at the three-day camp which began yesterday. Science and its multifarious applications brought many changes in life through inventions of gadgets like computers which made life comfortable, said Nakeeran. 'Indians are known for their abilities and intelligence. But they have to work together and stand united for achievements,' he said.
Mohan Verghese Chunkath, vice-chairman, Science City, explained the summer camp would create awareness in children on latest developments in science, besides instilling progressive thoughts in them.
'The Science Camp would also
teach students on how to use scientific gadgets like internet, reference
books and others for getting the required information,' he said. Science
City is an autonomous institution which functioned under Higher Education
Department of the State government.
