The social work students of the D G Vaishnav College formed a human chain along the shores of the Besant Nagar beach today in protest against the practice of child labour in Chennai.
This event was organised as part of their awareness programme 'Vidiyal, the Dawn,' to mark the banning of child labour in India. Indian Council for Child Welfare (ICCW) vice president Anadal Damodaran, cine actor Nandaa and other eminent personalities participated in the event.
The formation of the human chain, was followed by the holding of a grafitti contest. Around 500 participants from various colleges, institutions, NGOs took part in the event.
The entries submitted for the grafitti contest will be forwarded to the respective state government department so that they could use these captions and slogans as promotional materials in their public relation campaigns.
The event was held in association
with Green Park, ICCW, Chennai Corporation and UCMAS.
