In a sharp response to the comment of Chief Minister M Karunanidhi that people who opposed destruction of Ramar bridge were traitors, Hindu Munnnai founder leader Ramagopalan today said Karunanidhi was trying to intimidate the leaders of the Hindu organisations.

In a statement here, Ramagopalan said Karunanidhi was trying to intimidate by branding the opponents of the destruction of Ramar bridge as 'traitors' and asserted that they were not longing to take a certificate of patriotism from Karunanidhi.

'He is pretending as if he does not know the awful aftermath and ill effects of the destruction of the Ramar bridge,' the Hindu Munnani leader said and added that in a recent seminar held here experts from various fields spoke of the dangerous outcome of the destruction.

'The man on the street is asking why the ships that went to wreck the bridge broke down, if it were only sand shoals and not Ramar bridge,' he posed and cautioned against destructing the bridge. Now plans are being made to bring down the bridge by using explosives as efforts to break it by using ships and equipment, he said.

Tamilnadu is reeling under inflation, poverty, violence and family feuds and people are bogged down by all this. 'Karunanidhi is trying to deflect the attention of people by staging this drama that there is no bridge,' Ramagopalan said. In each and every village of Tamilnadu young people are ready to protect the Ramar bridge even at the cost of risking their dear lives, he added.
