Nagercoil, May 17:
Padmanabhapuram in Kanyakumari district today wore a deserted look following a bandh call given by several political parties to protest against dropping the town from Assembly constituency list under the delimitation scheme.
As of now, Kanyakumari district has six Assembly constituencies —Nagercoil, Kanyakumari, Colachel, Padmanabhapuram, Killiyur, Tiruvattar and Vilavancode. However, the Election Commission under the Delimitation Scheme has decided to drop Padmanabhapuram constituency.
Politicians cutting across party lines protesting the move had been staging demonstrations in the district. As a last resort, all parties have come together and called for a bandh in Padmanabhapuram today.
All shops downed their shutters
and autorickshaws, cars, buses were off the road.
