        Work is worship. True, but the 500-odd workers of Lucas TVS have gone one step further by serving their workplace on Sundays sans any remuneration.

        M Murugappan, chairman, Corborundum Universal Ltd, who was guest of honour appreciated the voluntary service of the workers.

        It may be noted that the work team is a group of 500 workers of the company who divide themselves as a group of 50 to visit the company on Sundays in turns and they expect no extra remuneration from the management for this service.

        As an voluntary service, this group undertakes the cleaning work of the factory, machines, checking minor problems in the machine following the TPM concept, servicing the machine parts where minor accidents happens,maintaining healthy environment in and around the factory, servicing all tools, cleaning the trays and trolleys where accessories are kept, eliminating all problems which hinder to provide quality products to their customers. The group service is split in such a way that each worker comes for this service for only one Sunday in a month.

        This team started its service with just 22 members in 2001, now it numbers to around 500 and in this 5 year the team has 242 Sundays, discussed and sorted nearly 9000 problems thereby saving nearly Rs 93 lakh to the management. Foreign delegates visiting this factory appreciated the work team.
