PEACEFUL REPOLL
   

            Civic bypolls for 67 wards of Chennai Corporation were more or less peaceful, except for a few stray incidents. People of all age groups and cutting across community gathering at the booths where repolls were held for casting their votes.

        Union Minister for Statistics G K Vasan arrived at the booth near his residence to exercise his franchise. As decided earlier by the State Election Commission and the City Police, the entire polling process was videographed by the security personnel on duty at the booths. City Police Commissioner Letika Saran went on a tour of sensitive wards and supervised the deployment of additional forces to prevent untoward incidents.

        In a welcome move, Corporation officials were seen with loudspeakers early in the day on the streets asking the public to come out in large number to cast their votes. women with children and elderly folks made a beeline at the voting centres to elect their ward councillors once again.
