AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

From Belgaum with love

With fishlike eyes and a shapely physique, Lakshmi Rai can be termed a Greek beauty in Kollywood.

The young actress made her entry into the Tamil film industry with Karka Kasadara before being paired opposite actor Parthiban in Kundaka Mundaka.

Born and brought up in Bangalore, Lakshmi started acting in advertisement films at a very young age. She was also crowned Miss Belgaum in 2002.

News Today caught up with Lakshmi Rai who is back after shooting in Germany and Austria.

        Excerpts:

How eagerly are you awaiting the release of Dhamapuri?

A: I am sure the movie will be a success. The songs are good, and so is the script. Moreover, the director is Perarasu and it is a film by A M Rathnam. So I am expecting good results. Also, acting with an experienced actor like Vijayakanth was a great experience for me.

When established heroines refused the project, what made you accept the role?

A: This is a nice project, I don't know why they refused it. Vijayakanth is a popular hero and acting with him is a good way of learning the nuances, so I took up the offer.

Are you looking for glamorous roles?

A: No, I don't want to concentrate on glamour alone. But it is not true that you can attract people by exposure alone, one can do it through performance too. In Dharmapuri, my role is that of a village belle and people can see a different Lakshmi Rai.

What do you have to say about competition from Malayalee heroines ?

A: There is stiff and healthy competition. We have to fully utilise our acting talents to come to the top. If Dharmapuri does well, it will be a launchpad to success.

        Your forthcoming movies?

A: I am working in a film titled Nenjai Thodu. I am paired opposite a new hero.

The movie might be released for Tamil New Year (in 2007). There is also a Kannada movie Preethina Premana which is a remake of Hindi flick Ishq and Darshan is the hero.
