V SUNDARAM
Ioffer my following poetic tribute to the Cabinet Secretary and all the Union Secretaries of the Government of India, which is also an Article Of Faith with them. When I think of their pitiable plight, I am reminded of the beautiful words of Boris Pasternak: 'Our health is bound to be affected if day after day, we say the opposite of what we feel, if we grovel before what we dislike and rejoice at what brings us nothing but misfortune. Our nervous system is not just a fiction; it is part of our physical body, and our soul exists in space, and is inside us, like the teeth in our mouth. It cannot for ever be violated with impunity'.
I bent down
To kiss
The gleaming black boots
Of our UPA political master
Then he said:
LOWER
As I bent lower
I felt within me
Magnificently
The resistance
Of my spine
Not wishing to bend
Gladly I crept away
Thankful to our master
For this thrilling da- to-day experience
Of my silent inner
Power and dignity
So ends my wretched ditty
Is it not a matter for your pity?
Which I dare not ask you
In public with any alacrity!
