Is EC partisan & vulgar?

V SUNDARAM

The Election Commission has ordered the transfer of Chennai City Police Commissioner R. Natraj to a non-election post. According to available information, though no specific reason has been given by the Election Commission for issuing such an order, yet it is reliably understood that the Election Commission acted only as a pageboy of the de facto dictatorial Prime Minister. In order to please the DMK party in Tamilnadu, Sonia Gandhi has perhaps used the instrumentality of the Election Commission to get Natraj transferred from his post.

At the time of Assembly elections in Bihar, when Ram Vilas Paswan declared like an uncrowned Mughal Emperor of India that only a Muslim should be the Chief Minister of Bihar, the Election Commission did not even take notice of this anti-Hindu stance, which is unconstitutional, and chose to remain silent. Now at the instance of a DMK Minister in the Central Government, the Election Commission has acted with great expedition and alacrity by issuing a peremptory order transferring the Police Commissioner of Chennai City.

The public would like to ask what is the electoral crime or offence which Natraj has committed? On International Women's Day he spoke about the achievements of Selvi Jayalalitha as Chief Minister of Tamilnadu informally and in good faith. As a State Government Servant, he had every right to speak about the public record of the Chief Minister of Tamilnadu. Nowhere has it been stated that he was referring to her achievements as General Secretary of the AIADMK.

To have made mountain of a mole hill based on a complaint given by a Central Minister functioning like a petty politician interested only in settling small political scores at the instance of some bigger political bandicoots behind him on the eve of elections in Tamilnadu, the Election Commission has declared to the country that it consists of small and petty men interested only in the carcass of routine procedure and not the wisdom and spirit of any official rule or regulation. The public in Tamilnadu view this knee-jerk action of the Election Commission of India as a politically partisan and childish act. The public are of the view that the Election Commission of india has only acted abruptly and that too in bad faith.

If on the eve of every election every Government servant has to keep his mouth shut on all the official functionaries of the Government which he serves, then we are indeed creating only a Police State through the instrumentality of the Election Commission. The action of the Election Commission is completely devoid of common sense and grace. If the Election Commission cannot be decent, let them endeavour to be at least graceful. If they cannot be moral, at least let them avoid being partisan and vulgar.
