The long awaited Madras Christian College Higher Secondary School Sports Academy was launched on the Tamil New Year Day.
In his inaugural address, W I Davaram, president, Tamilnadu Amateur Athletic Association, said it will help parents feel secure of their children, there being a special reservation in all the professional colleges and job opportunities.
Peter Subbu Reddy, Chief Inspector of Physical Education, said that physical fitness, sustained practice and character were the core factors to achieve excellence in sports.
Internationals in various disciplines - K Muralinath (basketball), Anglela Lincy (high jumper), T A Sekar (cricketer) - along with P S Moses (State cricketer), Vijaya Kannan (tennis player) and Dr V Kalanindhi (University footballer) presented their ideas to a good audience.
