Confronting realities in life

Why are people the way they are? What makes a winner win? What goes on within a person who is genuinely happy and another who is miserable, are some of the questions that everyone ask themselves. But the manner of how many people work on it to find an answer varies.

This introspection to find an answer for many such question that arises in everyone's mind genuinely puzzled Raksha Bharadia, a Ahmedabad- based freelance writer, which in turn led her to the path of finding answers to many such queries.

With indepth research, interviews and her constant focus on the question about what next ended up her to write a book called Me A Handbook for Life, which she launched at Landmark, Chennai, yesterday.

The book, a fruit of her eight years of serious study through 800 books, introspection with herself and interviews with famous personalities like Javed Akhtar, Vikram Chandra, M F Hussain, Kiran Bedi, Pandit Jasraj, Mahesh Bhatt, Esther David, Birju Maharajah, Tanuja Chandra, Sathya Saran and Salim Khan and many others opened her mind to many realities and facts, which she compiled as a book in different categories.

Talking about the contents and the compilation of author's observation Nirmala Lakshman, Joint Editor, The Hindu, after launching the book, said the book is simple, direct and makes the reader confront many realities that one face in life.

Reading the excerpts from the book, Nirmala said the book has dwelt upon some of the major issues like self-esteem, goals, love , body and happiness. The book had also presented the facts with various quotations and caricatures to make it more interesting and lively.

Speaking about her experience while writing her maiden book, Raksha Bharadia said she could learn many things all these years. 'It taught me that all are one and every person thinks alike. All of us have weaker and stronger points on which some grieve upon while the other utilise it to attain success.'

Mentioning the reason for successfully bringing out the book, she said,

'Setting the goal was what motivates me from within. Goal-setting is powerful and it works, she added.

When queried about how the title of the book went along with the content, which talked a lot about other's nature and character and their views, she said there was no difference between her and others.

'Whatever queries and thought process that go in other's mind are also part of me, and this makes me no different from other,' she said.

Actor Srikanth, T V actor and anchors Vijay Adhiraj, Rohini and Shyam Ganesh and Sri Lankan High Commissioner Amsa were also present at the book-release function. The book brought out by Rupa Publications is priced at Rs 195.
