BARRICADED?: The compound wall and the gates on either side of the pathway remain a stumbling block. |
The space on the side of Sri Venkateswara Hindu Colony Middle School, Nanganallur, is under dispute now with a few claiming that the land has been 'usurped' by the school authorities while the latter is vehemently denying the charge.
The land is now fenced with gates (linking 21st Cross Street with 17th Cross Street) put up by the school authorities.
The school won a case on the matter at a Munsif court not long ago. Now some of the local residents have moved another seeking its intervention in the matter. They claim that the 'occupied space' should be allowed for use as a public pathway. Alandur Municipality is also of little help in this matter when contacted three-four times.
Correspondent of the school
K V Thambiran says the piece of the property belongs to the school and
it has not been handed over to the municipality for public utility. 'The
school is run for the poor and children are not paying fees excepting the
one-time payment of Rs 150 at the time of registering and getting admission.
No individual is enjoying the property,' he said. Thambiran also says there
is no court case pending against any one. The residents' case has been
dismissed, he says.
