Chennai, Aug 20:

Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today dismissed AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa's statement that he showed least interest in the Indo-US nuclear deal.

In a statement here, Karunanidhi said that he held detailed discussions with former Prime Minister V P Singh, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi for the past few days on the issue.

'State secretary of the CPI (M) N Varadarajan and party politburo member K Varadarajan had met me and explained about their party's stand on the Indo-US nuclear agreement', he said.

Without knowing any of these developments, Jayalalithaa had been issuing statements like a 'frog in the well', Karunanidhi said.

On the cable TV issue, Karunanidhi said the State government had clarified that the welfare of the cable TV operators would be protected and it has been clearly understood by the operators across the State. All their genuine demands would be met with, he said.

However, a few were still issuing statements in spite of detailed clarification. This was being done under the instigation of certain vested interests, he noted.

On the request from two-wheeler riders' association to reconsider the compulsory helmet rule, Karunanidhi said, 'the government has nothing to do with it but respect the ruling of the Madras High Court.'
