Chennai, Aug 20:
Former Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa has sought the resignation of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in connection with the Indo-US nuclear deal as it impinges on the country's sovereignty, without any concern for protecting its interests.
In a hard-hitting statement issued here yesterday, Jayalalithaa said,'it is the bane and misfortune of the country that we have a Prime Minister who contradicts himself, knowingly utters falsehoods in Parliament, hides the truth and deliberately gives wrong information veiled in half-truths, all the time acting against the interests of the people of India.'
Stating that the nation had seen weak and inefficient Prime Ministers before, AIADMK supremo said, 'but the country has not seen a Prime Minister as Manmohan Singh who has been dangerously subverting India's sovereignty in such a sinister way.' She added, 'it is only now that India is seeing a Prime Minister who is himself actively working against India's sovereignty and even dares to lie about an agreement with another nation in Parliament itself by twisting his statements.' She asserted that if he continues to be the Prime Minister of the country, it would spell danger, catastrophe and calamity for India.
Former Chief Minister said
the Prime Minister, in a statement in Parliament, had said that the nuclear
Agreement was not applicable to research relating to military operations
and does not place any bar on it. But, she added, within 24 hours of this
statement, an American spokesperson, clearly replied that 'if India attempted
to conduct atomic tests related to military operations, the deal would
be revoked and its after-effects would also be severe.' 'Manmohan Singh
is exercising all his might and is keen to thrust and foist an agreement
on India, which has many pitfalls, quicksand and dangerous whirlpools,'
she added.
