Donning different hats

        Chitra Laxmanan is a multi-faceted personality who has been successful in all aspects of tinsel town. He started his career as a journalist and has worked in newspapers like Vidivelli and Thayin Manikodi.
      Chitra Laxmanan was closely associated with director Bharthiraja. After the success of Bharathiraja's first movie 16 Vayathinilae, Laxmanan was quick to pay a token advance to him selecting him as the director of a movie which he decided to produce.

        The decision of the close friends took shape in the form of Manvasanai with Revathy and Pandian in the lead roles. This movie was the first product from his production house, Gayathri Films. 'Manvasanai ran to packed houses across Tamilnadu', says the achiever.

        'Though I used to participate in the story discussions of Bharathiraja's movies, I formally joined him as an assistant director from Alaigal Oivvadillai ,' adds Chitra Laxmanan.

       He was also the first person to combine the concepts of novel with cinema in Thiraikadhir, his brain-child newspaper. Having worked in the magazine Indian Moviestar as editor, he went on to produce Vazhkai with thespian Shivaji Ganesan.

        This versatile person had the essentials to become a director and he directed Surasamharam which had Kamal Hassan in the lead.

        Chitra Laxmanan has served as the jury member of 20th National awards 2002 and also for the Indian Panorama. He has also been the board member of Censor Board.

        Talking about the growth of television satellites, he says,' TV has a huge audience and the reach is easier'. Having been in the film field for more than 25 years, he says that the love he had for films made him what he is today.

        Chitra Laxmanan has acted in more than 50 films. 'Though I have acted in many movies, the one in which I acted with Shivaji Ganesan is close to my heart.'

        He has also directed Periyathambi with Prabhu and Nagma in the lead roles, Chinnaraja with Karthik and Roja in the lead and few other movies.

        This eminent personality is now into producing TV serials. He is chief operational officer for Prime Premiere Theatre Chain Ltd in Malaysia.

        Though the director shuttles between Malaysia and India, he finds K K Nagar, a really peaceful place to live in.

        'Wherever I go, I miss the quiet atmosphere of this area. My heart longs to be here again', says Chitra Laxmanan as he signs off.
