K B Pavan, Pinal Shah and Robin Bisht shone with the bat while Akshay Wakharia and Aaron Heal excelled with the ball on day one of the second round matches of the Buchi Babu memorial cricket tournament here yesterday. Pavan's unbeaten 182 helped Karnataka amass 351 for 5 in the allotted 90 overs against Assam, while Gujarat captain Pinal scored an elegant 160 not out against former Ranji champions Baroda.
The match between Rajasthan and Punjab saw the latter's captain Robin do the bulk of his team's scoring with a dedicated unbeaten 114.
Vidarbha right arm medium pacer Akshay claimed 5 for 68 in restricting local team Combined districts to 299 all out in 86.5 overs, while the Australian Sports Institute dismissed Andhra for 195, thanks to a fine effort by Heal, who claimed 4 wickets for 24 runs. The visitors replied with 110 for six in 27.4 overs.
