Not suicide, just murder: Police

        Police, investigating into the death of a woman and her two children in her house following an LPG cylinder blast, today said that it was not a case of suicide as was presumed, but plain murder.

        The police, citing post-mortem reports, stated that the three - Geeta, Raghav and Renu- were strangled to death in their house in suburban Porur.

        After intensive investigation and interrogation of Mohanasundaram, Geeta's husband, it came to known that he had murdered his wife and two children as he could not pay debts.

        Mohanasundaram said he killed his family and then tried to commit suicide by setting ablaze the cylinder. He's now undergoing treatment for burns at a private hospital.

        In his confession, the man said he had told his wife that it was better to commit suicide due to mounting debts than to incur the wrath of the debtors who happened to be his relatives and friends. His wife opposed the idea and this forced Mohanasundaram to kill his family and later himself.

        Robbers make hay

        Unidentified men broke into a house here in broad daylight and got away with jewels.

        Police said the robbery occurred when Dillibabu, a resident of Washermenpet, had gone to his iron shop at Manali yesterday. His wife was also away to school to pick up her children. When she returned home, she found jewels worth 12 sovereigns missing. She lodged a police complaint.

        Washermenpet police are on the lookout for culprits.

        Daily wager's house looted

        Burglars broke into a house and decamped with five sovereign of jewels at Avadi. Police said Anandan a resident of J P Nagar is a daily wager worker.

        He had locked the house and was out of station. When he returned back, he saw the locked house broken open and the valuables missing.
