The advent of technology has opened the gates of innumerable employment opportunities for youngsters, chairman of City Union Bank Ltd S Balasubramanian has said.
Speaking at the 70th anniversary celebrations of the Stenographers Guild here yesterday, Balasubramanian said education was important and that learning should never end with the institution, but one has to update knowledge life-long for personal progress.
He further said the country had the potential to show tremendous development, with 54 per cent of the population below 25 years of age.
The bank chairman urged students to be confident and show full-fledged commitment to achieve their goals.
Mylapore MLA S Ve Sheker said students must be honest in their endeavour. 'Never waste time, lend a helping hand to others, respect your parents and believe in God to live a peaceful and successful life,' he said.
President of the Stenographers Guild S V Ramaswamy regretted the fact that there were less takers for learning shorthand in Tamil. 'There is a desperate requirement for persons with shorthand knowledge in many government jobs,' he said.
Further, he said, more number of shorthand books in Tamil had to be brought out to stop the extinction of Tamil short-hand.
The guild had many innovative
courses designed specially to upgrade the skills for the profession of
secretaryship. Editor of Tamil daily Dinamani V Vaidyanathan were among
the others who spoke.
