A 45-year old DMK office-bearer was murdered in Thanjavur and the police are on the hunt for the perpetrators of the crime.
According to police, Karunakaran, a resident of Anna Nagar 14th Street, was a Deputy ward secretary of the DMK and a hotelier. He used to go home late in the night from his hotel near Thanjavur Railway station. It is said Karunakaran used to take home the day's collection all alone from his business premises.
Last night, as usual, he
had left the restaurant by 12 am but did not reach home even after several
hours. An agitated family members filed a complaint with the local police.
A police party spotted the blood stained motorbike of the DMK functionary
and his body on the river bank of Reddy Palayam near Thanjavur. It is suspected
that this may be a murder for gain. Police are also investigating whether
anyone had business rivalry with the slain businessman. Karunakaran is
survived by wife and two daughters.
