Drinking is dangerous. It is so dangerous that it can drive people to suicide.
According to police, Sekar (40) of Bharathy Nagar, Ramapuram, a carpenter, seldom went for work due to his drinking habit, was detested by his wife Selvarani, mother of three. Apart from drinking he used to quarrel with his wife often.
On the day of his ending his life, he came full of alcohol and started a scuffle with his wife. Fed up with his attitude, she, alongwith her children went to the next house and slept.
When she came back in the morning, she found her house bolted from inside and upon peeping through the window, she saw her husband hanging dead from the ceiling. It is said Sekar had a suicidal tendency and had tried to end his life thrice before when neighbours came and rescued him.
Similarly, in Maduravoyal, police said Panneer (37), of Alapakkam Ganapathy Nagar committed suicide, by hanging himself. It is said his wife Sivagami left him with her two children for her mother's house at Nerkundram after he came home drunk. Panneer, fastened around his neck a wire, died.
