        In a case arising out of non-use of helmet, a 23- year- old woman riding pillion on a two-wheeler lost her life last night.

        According to police, the woman Poornima (23), a resident of Poonamallee Raja Agraharam in Kancheepuram, was returning home along with her friend Kamesh Kumar on a two-wheeler when an unidentified vehicle knocked them down near Thandalam and sped away. Poornima succumbed to head injury while Kamesh Kumar sustained minor injuries.

        Woman SI in soup for torture

        Women who were arrested under POTA have sought action against a woman sub- inspector for having allegedly tortured a POTA detainee.

        According to the women, one Ramani, waiting for a bus at Koyambedu, was assaulted and abused by a woman SI Selvakumari under the pretext of a drive against prostitution. Besides, other policemen allegedly tried to frame Ramani.

        Hence, action against the police was sought by POTA detainees.
