Ragging: Panel to submit report in April

The Central Committee on Ragging will submit its report on prevention of ragging before the Supreme Court by the first week of April 2007, the Committee's chairman R K Raghavan today said.
Interacting with the people to air their views on prevention of ragging here, Raghavan, who is also the former director of CBI said the Committee had received several suggestions during their earlier visits to Kolkatta, Guwahati, Mumbai, Delhi, Bhopal, Jaipur and Cochin.
Similarly, the meet is being conducted in Chennai to discuss about the steps to be taken against those students indulged in ragging, he said.
The Committee would also submit its report to take action against college or university authorities in the event of ragging.
It may be noted that the Ministry of Human Resource Development constituted a Central Committee on Ragging, pursuant to an order of the Supreme Court on 27 November, 2006.
The Committee comprised five members and a member secretary headed by a Chairman. Former Madras University Vice-Chancellor
M Sathikh, Mumbai SNDT Women's University Vice-Chancellor Chandra Krishnamoorthy, New Delhi Ramjas College Principal Rajendra Prasad, Maulana Azad Medical College Dean A K Agarwal and Kanpur IIT Director Sanjay Govind Dhande. Also, Joint Secretary of Ministry of Human Resource Development Sunil Kumar is the Member Secretary of the Committee.
The public who are unable
to attend the interacting session can forward their suggestions on or before
26 February. The suggestions should in typed format addressed to the The
