Pondy motorists irked by HCPL outlets' move

NT Bureau
Puducherry, Feb 22:

Strange are the ways of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd in marketing their products through its outlets spread across the Union Territory of Pondicherry.

It is said HPCL had taken an 'anti-people' strategy to market the expensive Turbojet petrol and diesel in lieu of the ordinary petroleum products. As a result, the motorists have been put to hardship.

The worst-hit are the agriculturists, who now have to shell out a rupee more for diesel, mainly used for tractors and other farm equipment.

Pouring oil into the fire is the grave situation of non-supply of ordinary petroleum items in the HPCL outlets.

Ordinary petrol costs Rs 41.92 and Turbojet petrol Rs 43.16 while ordinary diesel costs Rs 31.76 and Turbojet diesel Rs 32.37.

What is intriguing is that the outlets forcibly market the costly petroleum items leaving the motorists have no other choice. Majority of the retail outlets in the Union Territory are manned by HPCL and motorists have to solely depend on them.

People are up in arms against the HPCL and are gearing up to stage an agitation. It is for the Centre to act fast before the situation gets out of control.
