Chennai traffic police have imposed certain restrictions on the movement of goods vehicles in the city during peak hours from Monday.
According to a press release, light motor vehicles and three- wheelers used as goods carriers on the following roads will be restricted during peak hours from Monday to Friday on a temporary basis for a period not exceeding a month.
They will not be permitted from 8 am to 10.30 am and from 5 pm to 9 pm on Anna Salai from Kathipara junction to Wallajah Point, on Jawaharlal Road (100 Feet Road) from Nehru Statue junction to Wheels India (Padi point) and on EVR Salai from the Koyambedu roundabout to the Nurses Quarters junction.
There was heavy traffic at
the automatic signals on all major thoroughfares from as early as 8 a m
with people going to offices and children to schools before 9 am. So, the
new restrictions, the press release said. Goods vehicles need not ply at
8 am or 5 pm. Such vehicles can transport commodities either at 7 am or
after 10.30 am when the density of traffic is relatively low.
