Manipal varsity to hold online test

NT Bureau
Chennai, Feb 22:

'Manipal University is all set to introduce online entrance tests for admission to professional courses for the students from this academic year', said Pro-Chancellor of Manipal University H S Ballal.

Announcing this through a video conference here yesterday, Ballal said 'the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), now known as Manipal University, has already conducted online exams for postgraduate medical and dental courses and now examination for courses such as MBBS, BDS, BE, BPharm, BSc Nursing, BHM and BA Journalism would commence soon.

'The online tests will be conducted at 19 centres which have been designed with the latest computers for every student, high security communication, hi-tech monitoring systems to prevent impersonation. Each computer is fitted with a web camera which will take the image of the candidate every 20 minutes,' he said

'This move of introducing online tests has been made keeping in mind students who often have to face the probability of taking two or more entrance exams on the same day. Invariably the student takes up only one entrance exam and this reduces the prospect of having more choices' he added.

He further said unlike other entrance examinations the students can choose the test schedule that suits their individual requirements. Students are also offered scholarship based on their performance in the entrance examination and academics too, he said.

Ballal said, 'we have already taken initiative towards industry-academic and private-public partnership- based research initiatives in the last one year. This has led to the funding and interaction from government funding agencies, national laboratories and industries. So far we have tie-ups with 49 industries to enhance job opportunities for graduates from Manipal university.'
