Encroachments in T Nagar come under scanner

NT Bureau
Chennai, May 22:

The pavement on Nageswaran Road at T Nagar wears a new look after
the encroachment drive by the traffic police yesterday.

Chennai City Traffic Police launched a drive to remove all illegal encroachments on the pavement of Nageswara Road in T Nagar on Monday to increase available parking space for vehicles.

The department has also asked commercial establishments to provide sufficient parking space inside all buildings so as to avoid illegal parking on the pavement by vehicles.

There are many parts of T Nagar which face frequent traffic jams and one such area is Panagal Park. This road acts as a junction for many people who come for shopping and it is the transit point for people going to West Mambalam and K K Nagar, says a senior Traffic police officer.

Residents of T Nagar also extensively use Nageswara Road, he added. Nageswara Road handles more traffic than it is capable of handling. Usman Road, South Usman Road and Thyagaraya Road are always encroached upon by parked vehicles, he said.

Keeping this ever-increasing vehicular congestion in mind and to ensure the free flow of vehicles, the department had launched this drive to remove vendors, selling their wares on the pavement, he said.

This drive will continue till all unauthorized encroachments are removed, he added.
