Chennai, May 22:
M V Hospital for Diabetes, Royapuram, has introduced a 'wound healing therapy' for diabetic foot wounds called 'Vacuum Assisted Closure' (VAC). The therapy is welcome news for patients who face the problem of delayed healing of diabetic wounds, especially resulting from foot complications which would even lead to amputation.
According to Dr Vijay Viswanathan, managing director of MV Hospital for Diabetes and Diabetes Research Centre, 'Amputation of foot due to diabetic foot complications has been increasing alarmingly in India. Early care and faster healing would considerably improve this condition.'
VAC therapy was introduced
by Kinetic Concepts, USA, in 1995, and it gained a popularity there and
it is a widely preferred therapy in USA nowadays. VAC is an innovative
technology device specifically created and developed to treat a variety
of chronic and acute wounds. The device is automated to control the delivery
of topical solutions such as cleansers, antibiotics, anti-fungal, antiseptics
and anesthetics to the wound.
