N G Sneha of Alpha MHSS and M Karthikeyan of SRDK Vivekananda Vidalaya emerged winners in the boys and girls under-8 categories respectively in the 3rd Vishy Anand Hero Cycles State-level inter-school children chess Championship held at Dr Nalli Kuppuswamy Vivekananda Vidalaya Junior College here recently.
The tournament attracted 355 players representing different parts of the State which include 34 FIDE rated players like R Arun Karthik, who finished second in 'B' section of Aeroflot International chess festival at the Gamma-Delta hotel in Moscow recently, Pon N Krithika, gold medallist in the Under-16 section of Commonwealth chess championship 2006, M Mahalakshmi (bronze medallist in world Under-8 event at Bishek, Kyrgyzstan 2006); U Ashwini (Asian U-18 bronze medallist).
The tournament was organised by Vishy Anand chess Academy Prize Distribution function was presided by V Kameswaran, vice-president, TNSCA, presided over the valedictory. B Jayaraman, chairman and MDBJ Expo Pvt, Ltd distributed prizes to the winners.
The 3rd BJ Rolling Trophy was bagged by Vellammal consecutively for the third time in succession.
Final placings: (Winners only): Girls Under-8: N G Sneha (Alpha MHSS) (7.5); U-10: Srija Seshadri (Jawahar School, Neyveli) (6.5); U-12: J Saranya (Velammal MHSS (7.5);
U-14: R.Bharathi (Baktavachalam Vidyashram) (5.5); U-18: P Uthra (Velammal Mhss) (5.5).
Boys: Under-8: M Karthikeyan (SRDK Vivekananda Vidalaya) (8); U-10: Kumaran B (Sankara SSS, Chennai) (7); U-12: N R Abhinav (Bhavan's Rajaji Vidyashram) (7); U-14: J Bavan Kumar (SRDK Vivekananda Vidalaya) (7.5); U-18: R Arun Karthik (Velammal MHSS) (7).
