        'The new age manager should have a creative approach to life and be true to one self to cope up with the stress and its related disorders integral to the computer era,' said Governor Surjit Singh Barnala, while speaking at the third convocation of the postgraduate programme in management of the Great Lakes Institute of Management yesterday.

        He said that the best way to motivate any employee was to make him feel comfortable. The management must be able to bring out the hidden talents in every employee, he said.

        'Employees need to be treated with dignity, honour and fairness,' he said, adding that on the part of the employee, he must also equip himself with knowledge and skills.

        Stating that our country is emerging as a major player in many fields, he wanted the emergence of more number of premier Indian institutions.

        Barnala said that a nation's prosperity and the well being of its people depended on purposeful, effective and dynamic planning.

        'The focus in economics has shifted to productivity-based growth through efficient utilisation of human resources. Industrial engineers and behavioural scientists have shifted their emphasis to the human resource aspect of development to ensure sustained output,' said the Governor.

        While emphasising the need for lateral and vertical growth of business schools, Barnala underlined the need for creating our own model of management studies.

        Later he presented medals to meritorious students of the Institute.
