As part of encouraging their service to society, people from different walks of life were honoured by Lions Club of Cathedral Madras at a function recently.
S Christie Raajan, managing director, Deepa Travels and Tours Private Limited, Prof Dr M J Ramakrishnan, former principal and dean, Sri Ramachandra Dental College and Hospital, M V M Velmurugan, chief executive-Velammal Educational Trust, and N S Ramesh Khanna, actor and director, were the dignitaries who received the 'Cathedral Excellence Award' instituted by the club.
The awards were given by Professor Dr K Swaminathan, Director of Medical Education (Retd), government of Tamilnadu. In his short speech, Swaminathan asked doctors to have enormous patience while treating patients.
Referring to a media report that human beings should be buried than cremated, he said that cremation causes air pollution while burial under a tree adds nutrient to the earth.
Swaminathan also said that drinking too much of coffee would also prevent diabetes stage II, pancreatic and colon cancer.
The awardees, in their acceptance speech, thanked the club for honouring them.
M V M Velmurugan, speaking on the occasion, dedicated the award to his school team for backing him right from the early days. He also said the award had been given for the hardwork and consistency of the principal, teachers and his 33,000 students studying in Velammal Group of Schools.
Ramesh Khanna, in his speech, said the award was a pat on his back and would encourage him to achieve greater heights. He also thanked film directors Vikraman and
K S Ravikumar for giving an opportunity to work under them.
