        Former world number ones Lleyton Hewitt of Australia and Russian Marat Safin will take part in the $416,000 Kingfisher Airlines Open ATP event to be staged in Mumbai from 24 September.

        Frenchman Richard Gasquet, a semi-finalist at Wimbledon this year, and 2006 Australian Open runner-up Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus had confirmed they will also take part, the organisers said in a statement yesterday.

        'All the leading players participating this year have beaten the best in the field and this fact holds promise for some scintillating action on the courts,' said India's former Davis Cup player Mahesh Bhupathi, whose company Globosport India, is organising the event.

        Russian Dmitry Tursunov won his maiden ATP title in the inaugural edition of the event last year.
