'Her comments a disgrace to Tamilnadu'

Cong threatens stir against Jaya

NT Bureau
Chennai, Aug 23:

Apparently pained by the scathing criticism of AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa against Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh over the Indo-US Nuclear deal, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader D Sudarsanam said today that his party would stage demonstration if the AIADMK leader did not take back her remarks.

In a statement here, senior Congress leader and party treasurer Sudarsanam said, 'AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa, without an iota of political civility, has asked the Prime Minister to immigrate to America on the nuclear deal issue.'

He also said that by expressing such opinion, Jayalalithaa, who was a Chief Minister for 10 years had brought disgrace and disrespect to Tamilnadu.

'Jayalalithaa might not have forgotten that she lost power after making disparaging comments about Congress president Sonia Gandhi. Now she has made similar remarks against Dr Manmohan Singh and it is highly condemnable,' the Congress leader said.

Sudarsanam wanted the AIADMK chief to immediately take back the objectionable comments and cautioned that if this was not done, Chennai District Congress Committee would stage a demonstration before the AIADMK office here.

        Providing the spark

Jayalalithaa, in a recent statement on the N-deal took potshots at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and said that he had lost the credential to govern the nation and wanted him to step down from office.

Going the political extra mile, she asked Singh to 'immigrate to USA' with his family and it invoked a sharp response from the Tamilnadu Congress Committee (TNCC) President M Krishnaswamy who strongly condemned the remarks.

The Congress president slammed the AIADMK leader for making personal attacks and wondered why she did could not make political criticism. 'This smacks of political indecency and is a despicable act,' he said.

Close on the heels of Krishnaswamy's outburst against Jaya, Sudarsanam, a prominent leader of Union Minister GK Vaasan's faction, has now dared the AIADMK leader to either take back her remarks or face the Congress wrath.
