        A remand prisoner was fatally knocked down by an MTC bus while he tried to escape from the clutches of policemen at Adyar this morning.

        Police said Sekar (25) of Injambakkam was brought to Adyar police station for an enquiry in a theft case. During interrogation, Sekar was found to be involved in the case along with other accused Mahendran (24).

        When police were about to take the prisoners to Court, Sekar escaped from police and ran hastily on the road. Meanwhile, an MTC bus which was on its way knocked him down.

        Police immediately rushed him to nearby Government Royapettah hospital where he was declared brought dead.
