MP's call to restore Pudukottai constituency

NT Bureau
Chennai, Aug 23:

Senior BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Su Thirunavukkarasar has demanded restoration of Pudukottai Parliamentary constituency.

Raising the issue of abolition of Pudukottai constituency by the De-limitation Commission in the Rajya Sabha yesterday, Thirunavukkarasar said Pudukottai was a princely State ruled by Raja of Thondaman which was later merged with independent India.

Stating that the historically well-known Parliamentary constituency was fragmented and split into five constituencies in five revenue districts, the BJP leader said this was against law and justice.

He also said the people in the region were apparently hurt at the move and a district-level bandh was also observed. Hence, he urged the government to restore the constituency to respect the feelings of the public.
