More 'ladies special' buses

        State Transport Minister K N Nehru today announced that more special buses for ladies would be operated in Chennai soon.

        Responding to a question raised by PMK whip D Velmurugan a the State Assembly, the Minister said that the Chief Minister had promised to allocate separate fund for improving the public transport facility in Chennai in the next fiscal. As soon as the funds were allocated, all the demands of the members including ladies special buses would be met, he said.

        After introduction of new buses recently, the MTC's revenue has gone up by Rs 1.15 crore per day.

        Nehru added that MTC was facing a severe financial crisis compared to other transport corporations in Salem, Villupuram and Kumbakonam.

        The Minister said that MTC operates 2700 buses daily for a revenue Rs 91 lakh where as the transport corporation at Salem, Villupuram and Kumbakonam earn Rs three crore per day operating 3000 buses.
