Chennai, May 23:
The Tamiladu State Council of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) today welcomed the two important announcements made by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on the expansion of Chennai Airport and the setting up of a new Greenfield Airport near Chennai.
In a statement Gopal Srinivasan, chairman, CII said, 'CII welcomes and fully supports this bold twin track move by Chief Minister that will secure a quick medium term win, while creating a bold option for next decade in the new airport location.
This is exactly in line with the CII recommendation submitted to the Tamilnadu Government earlier.
The Chief Minister has taken an important step forward for sustaining the economic momentum of the State and Chennai in particular.'
The expansion plan of the Chennai Airport, in the medium term, would ease the passenger traffic, which is expected to touch 12-13 million by 2011, added Srinivasan.
Gopal Srinivasan thanked Chief Minister for accepting the CII recommendation to expand the existing airport initially and look at developing a greenfield airport in a long term perspective.
This landmark twin announcements
made today reinstates the commitment of the Government of Tamilnadu in
providing world class infrastructure in making Tamilnadu a front-runner
in economic development.
