DMDK to go it alone in polls

NT Bureau
Chennai, May 23:

DMDK general secretary Vijayakant has categorically stated that his party would go it alone in the Rajya Sabha elections.

Speaking to reporters today after inaugurating the new premises of his party office located near the demolished site of his kalyana mandapam, he said that as of now he had no idea of having truck with any other party. However, he made it clear that things might change depending upon circumstances.

He said that the demolition of his kalyana mandapam at Koyambedu was a conspiracy, hatched by the ruling DMK, who were unable to stomach the DMDK's development. 'I have no qualms over the demolition,' he said and added that the kalyana mandapam was constructed using his own earnings and not through any other means.

Referring to the proposed flyover at the Koyamebedu junction, he said that his kalyana mandapam was demolished only for road formation on this stretch and not for flyover work. Work for the proposed flyover has not yet commenced, he said. Their main intention was to target DMDK and hinder its development, he said.

To a query on political parties making a foray into the electronic media, he said that only people with huge sums of money could start TV channels. 'Let me think about launching a television channel after I have a sound financial background,' he added.

Talking about films, he said that he is working on a film with Madesh as director. He added that the title of the film was yet to be finalised. He said that he will be leaving for London in connection with his film in a day or two. The story would revolve around policemen and it would be picturised mostly in the UK and India.

DMDK presidium chairman Panruti Ramachandran, general secretary Ramu Vasanthan and youth wing secretary L K Satheesh were present during the press meet.
