CM presents cash prize to 6 toppers

Chennai, May 23:

        Chief Minister M karunanidhi today gave away cash prize and scholarship for the six State toppers in Plus Two examination to help them pursue higher education.

      State toppers, who learnt Tamil as first language, were given a cash prize of Rs 15,000, Rs 12,000 and Rs 10,000 to the first, second and third rankholders respectively.

        The toppers who received the prize and scholarships included S Ramya (1182) of DAV Higher Secondary School and second rankholder from the same school T Rupika (1180).

        Third rankholders with a total score of 1179 are V Jayamohan of SIV Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Tirupur, S Nivedha of Kurinji Higher Secondary School, Namakkal, M Ellavarasan of SRV Boys Higher Secondary School, Namakkal, and J Kirtana of S R V Girls Higher Secondary School, Rasipuram.

        The scheme to provide scholarship was first introduced by Karunanidhi during 1996 benefiting first three rankholders in the State and the district-level.

       State School Eduction Minister Thangam Thennarasu, secretary Kutralingam, Director of School Education R Kannan and the Director of Government Examination Vasanthi Jeevanandam were present on the occasion.
