Even as speculation is rife over different candidates from different parties contesting for the Rajya Sabha seat the elections for which is scheduled next month here come reports that former Union Minister and spokesperson of Congress party Jayanthi Natarajan is all set to contest the elections to the Upper House.
According to sources, though there are many contestants it is said that either Jayanthi Natarajan or Tamilnadu Congress Committee president M Krishnaswamy would be gunning for a seat.
It may be noted that the tenure of P G Narayanan (AIADMK), S S Chandran, Kamaraj, Gokula Indira, K B K Kumaran (DMK), P S Gnanadesikan of Congress party are coming to end by July 2007. And to select the new members the Election Commission has decided to conduct the polls on 15 June and also appointed State Assembly secretary Selvaraj as the Election Officer.
Meanwhile, it may be noted that Congress party is strongly contesting for the vacant place in the Rajya Sabha elections. TNCC president M Krishnaswamy is already camping in Delhi for the elections and along with him are Karti Chidambaram, son of Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram who is competing for the vacant place.
Apart from them, former MP R Anbarasu, advocate Damodaran of Ayanavaram are also trying their hand for the post. In addition, AICC party observer Veerappa Moily is trying his luck.
However, sources in the party
say that either Jayanthi Natarajan or M Krishnaswamy would get the nod
for taking part in the Rajya Sabha elections.
