Swathi Nrithyanjali was the theme for the bharatanatyam presentation of the Master V V Raghavan and Shwetha Sukumar at the Narada Gana Sabha recently. The duo, who danced for compositions of Maharaja Swathi Thirunal, were disciples of Dakshayani Ramachandran.
Shwetha enchanted the audience with her bhava for the padam Aliveni in ragam kurinji. She portrayed the nayika, wherein she yearns for her nayaka and complains to her friend about her beloved failing to turn up.
At home in his padam Smarathirumam Sadayam in ragam Behag, he portrayed kuchela's emotional feelings when he visits Sri Krishna in his abode remembering the childhood days and their pranks in gurukulam.
The accompanists - Sai Shankar (vocal), Sri Karthik (mridangam), Ananthanarayanan (veena) and Dakshayani (nattuvangam) played their part.
The uniqueness of the theme
was in the mix of the two styles of dance - the Adavus and footwork of
Kalakshetra style and the Karnas and grace of Dr Padma Subrahmanyam.
