'The crucial role played by India in supporting the peace initiatives of United Nations is laudable,' US Consul General in Chennai David T Hopper has said.
The diplomat said this while speaking at a programme organised in Chennai on Friday by Carnatica, an organisation into promotion of arts like dance and music, to release a music album 'World Peace' on the occasion of World Peace Day celebrations.
Hopper said United Nations had been trying to maintain peace through its record number of peace- keeping operations. He added that America, being a charted member and largest financial contributor to United Nations, was pleased to support its peace measures.
He also said that the funding made by America and others had enabled the Security Council of UN to deploy civilians and others in a record number of peace—keeping missions.
Later, the album 'World Peace'
was released by managing director of The Hindu N Murali and T Hopper received
the first copy. The album has nine compositions from different styles of
music involving more than 300 artistes. Srinivas of Airtel and managing
director of Sri Krishna Sweets M Murali were also present on the occasion.
