Season kicks off 28 April

New classes in Rolon racing meet

        Automative giants Ucal Fuel Systems and Royal Chains are sponsoring the UCAL Rolon National Road Racing Championship for the third straight year, getting underway this weekend at the Kari Motor Speedway track at Chettipalayam. The event is held under the aegis of the Federation of Motor Sports Club of India.

        At a media briefing here yesterday, Akbar Ebrahim, representing Meco Motorsports Private Limited, the organisers of the event, said two new classes are being introduced this year (B group four stroke 110-160 cc and 161-250 cc).

        Over 100 riders are expected to be in action including the renowned ones of Team TVS, Teams from Yamaha Factory and Libra Racing apart from the individuals like Preetam Dev Moses, K Rajini and Ashwin Sunder, having made a successful debut in international arena.

        For the initial Coimbatore leg, Nick Wanthrope, an expert from UK, will hold a three-day training programme for the riders. An exhibition race of the 1000 cc foreign bikes is the other highlight.

        With an eye on the safety aspect, the organisers will bring samples of safety gear from Germany.

        Each round will consist of two races in the category with the winner of each category presented a trophy.

        The overall championship winner will receive a trophy and Rs 50,000. Besides, there are trophies for the best team and tuners.

        Events are to be held in the following categories - Moped up to 65 cc (2 stroke); Above 80 cc to 125 cc (4 stroke); Above 125 cc to 160 cc (4 stroke); Above 110 cc to 150 cc (2 stroke); Above 110 cc to 150 cc (2 stroke) - Novice & Expertl ; Above 80 cc to 125 cc (4 stroke); Above 125 cc to 160 cc.

        New group: Above 110 cc to 160 cc (4 stroke); Above 160 cc to 250 cc (4 stroke).

        The dates of the six rounds: 1. Coimbatore (28-29 April); 2. Chennai (23-24 June); 3. Coimbatore (28-29 July); 4. Coimbatore (18-19 August); 5. Chennai (15-16 September); 6. Chennai (10-11 November).
