Former woman constable held

NT Bureau
Chennai, Apr 24:

A former woman constable of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was arrested on charges of impersonation here yesterday.

According to cyber crime police, one Thavamani (32), who identified herself as Angel, working in the Chief Minister's cell, threatened the Iyappanthangal MTC branch manager over the phone yesterday.

She had initially called him up to enquire about the delay in transferring one Boopalan, an MTC employee.

She soon called him up again and warned him that there would be dire consequences if his transfer orders were not issued at the earliest. The frightened manager had at once sanctioned the transfer. But the lady's behaviour aroused his suspicion and he contacted the CM's cell. After enquiries, he found that there was no one named Angel working in the CM's cell.

After enquiry, police found that the female impersonator was actually Thavamani alias Jaba (32) of Gandhi Nagar, Red Hills, who had worked as a CRPF constable in Coimbatore and was dismissed last year on similar charges. On interrogation, it was found that she had done this to help her neighbour whose transfer orders had been delayed for many months. She was then remanded to judicial custody.
