        An unidentified motorist snatched away a nine-sovereign gold chain from the wife of a retired naval officer at Adyar yesterday.

        According to police, Edmond Vaas, a resident of Indira Nagar and wife Cladia were walking near First Cross Street, Adyar, when they were accosted by a motorist.

        On the pretext of asking for directions, the man came near the couple, snatched the gold chain from Cladia's neck and fled from the place.

        Adyar police have registered a case.
