Sir
Congratulations to T R Jawahar for the well written article 'It's never too late' and the editorial 'Who is a citizen?' Signora Sonia became a 'registered citizen' only after 15 years of her marriage with Rajiv Gandhi. She never had the interest and inclination to become the citizen of India and even to day she and her children are natural Italian citizens.
After initial reluctance in joining politics, she soon understood that she could lead a party, which is full of spineless sycophants and could enjoy a jolly life wielding power at all corners of the country. She had developed a fancy and liking for the post of Prime Minister (she still has), which made her to tell a blatant lie to the then President K R Narayanan in 1998, that she had the support of 272 MPs, but thanks to Mulayam Singh, this country was saved from the shame and embarrassment of being ruled by a foreigner. Even after the 2004 elections, she met President Kalam with an intention of forming a government under her Prime Ministership, but this time the President himself had thwarted her idea, supposedly sighting the Constitutional limitations due to her foreign origin.
Having failed in her attempts twice, she is now trying to achieve her ambitions through her son Rahul, which is clearly evident from his immature blabberings, which are attributed to electoral strategies of the party. Unfortunately and sadly, this idea of Sonia is also seconded and supported by the man in the stature of Prime Minister, who said that, Rahul is the future of this country. So, it becomes all the more important for the Supreme Court to award a permanent stay restricting people with foreign origins to hold constitutional posts, till a constitutional amendment is made to that effect.
