        Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today officially announced that Old Mahabalipuram Road starting from Madhya Kailash till Mahabalipuram had been renamed as Rajiv Gandhi Salai.

        A press release here said that following the request made by Tamilnadu Congress Committee president M Krishnaswamy on the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, the Chief Minister had announced on 20 August that the road would be renamed as Rajiv Gandhi Road. It has to be noted that the road is also known as IT corridor due to the presence of software companies throughout the stretch.
