Kancheepuram, Sept 26:

        A housewife was charred to death last night after a kerosene lamp fell down on the cot in which she was sleeping along with her husband and 8-month old baby.

        Savithri, 33, living at Pallavan Nagar, was sleeping with her husband Raman and boy child on the cot when the lamp placed above fell over the bedspread which caught fire.

        All the three — husband, wife and the child suffered burn injuries and hearing their screams, the neighbours rushed them to Kancheepuram Government Hospital.

        But due to severity of burn injuries, the three patients were shifted to the Kilpauk Hospital. In spite of intensive treatment, Savithri passed away in the wee hours of today. However, the husband and the child were being given treatment.

        Kancheepuram Taluk Police have registered a case on the fire mishap and further enquiry is on.
