A 50-year-old woman was fatally knocked down by a bus at Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus (CMBT), Koyambedu last night.
Police said the deceased identified as Kasiammal (50) had come from Salem with her one-year-old grandson to visit her relative's house.
After reaching CMBT at around 8.30 pm, she was walking on a platform and a speeding bus hit her from behind.
In the melee, she threw her grandson away. The public rushed her to government Kilpauk hospital. But she died without responding to the treatment.
Bail for V'kant manager
The Madras High Court has granted anticipatory bail to Sathiskumar, the manager of DMDK chief Vijayakanth, in actor Vadivelu's office atttack case.
It may be recalled that the workers of DMDK and employees of Vadivelu's office at Saligramam here clashed recently. Cases were booked against as many as 30 men belonging to the actor politician's party and six were arrested. Now, the High Court has given anticipatory bail to Satishkumar in the case.
House looted
Burglars broke into a house and decamped with 30 sovereign of jewellery and Rs 10,00 in cash at Kolathur yesterday.
Police said the resident Padmavathy had gone to the market. When she returned home, she found the locked door broken open and the valuables kept in the almirah missing.
Students stage dharna
Students of two city colleges resorted to agitations on their respective campuses pressing for various demands.
According to sources, about
500 students of Pachaiappa's College and Kandaswami College (Anna Nagar)
staged protests seeking issuance of free bus pass and demanding that cultural
programmes be conducted by the college.
