Rotary Club's gesture to school in suburb

        Rotary Club of Kawachinagano, Japan and Malaysia, and other Rotarian beneficiaries have funded a school project in suburban Thorapakkam that provides for infrastructure facilities.

        Giving away cheque for US $ 10,000, president, Rotary Club of Kawachinagano, district 2640, Japan, Kazuki Kitjima said, 'Children are our future, educating them would not only help them but also the country. The next generation should be enlightened for their well being. So, the Rotary Club of Kawachinagano will try to fund more for this noble venture.'

        Representative of Rotary Club of Alor Star, district 3000 Malaysia, Na Selvanayagam gave away a cheque for Malaysian $ 10,000 for the project.

        While Rotary member Usha Harichandran handed over a cheque for Rs 2. 50 lakh. She said, 'poverty and illiteracy are the two biggest evils, which lead to bad governance and religious conflicts. In order to avoid this, education is necessary. Giving money and helping the needy is the duty of every citizen.'

        The programme, which was organised by Rotary Club of Madras Temple city, also saw the induction of three new Rotary members. Assistant governor of the club-Temple City N Venkatesan presented the Paul Harris Founder badge for selected members of Rotary.
